Your Car or Truck

Your auto insurance can cover damage to your vehicle. Insurance policies break it up into two coverages:

1. Comprehensive

2. Collision

Comprehensive (sometimes called "Other Than Collission") covers most types of damage to your car that don't involve a collision. Theft, fire, vandalism, striking a living animal (e.g. hitting a deer) and flood are most common types of loss covered by Comprehensive. But Comprehensive Coverage also covers glass damage!

Collision covers damages incurred in a collision.  It could be an at fault accident where you hit another car, building, tree, etc. Or a not at fault accident where someone hit you.

Both Comprehensive and Collission coverages are subject to a deductible. Deductibles amounts vary on personal preference but $500 or $1,000 deductibles are most common. However...

You can often get a $0 glass deductible. It costs a little more premium but you won't have to pay out-of-pocket if you need to replace a windshield in your car.

Damage To Property Of Others

If you hit something and it's your fault, you owe for the damages and  Property Damage to Others is what covers it.

If you hit another car, you owe for the repairs to that car. You also owe for any damaged contents, imagine totaling out an Amazon van . . . it can get expensive quick!

Property Damage to Others also covers damage to a building or telephone pole etc. if you happen to hit it.

Bodily Injury Liability

If you're at fault in an accident and injure someone, you will likely be held responsible and required to pay for their bodily injury.

This includes their emergency transportation, ER visit, surgeries, rehabilitation, physical therapy, and lost wages. Even moderate injuries can wrack up HUGE medical bills . . . and if you happen to disable someone it's even worse.

Not having enough coverage can leave you paying the rest of the bill out of pocket or even  with garnished wages.

Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist

What if you're in an accident that wasn't your fault?

In that case the other driver would owe for your damages, medical expenses, and lost wages. As we mentioned that can get really expensive!

What if they didn't have enough coverage (or any coverage) to pay for your losses? When their insurance runs out is when your Underinsured and Uninsured Motorist coverage kicks in to protect you.
